Tasting Notes
Robert KarlssonBig smoker. Mixed in with a sweet round maltiness. Some tar. Honeyed. Round style, smoke, malty sweetness, honeyed.
Rich Howardwarm smoky and salty caramel, a handful of sweet cherries, then some gauze, dark chocolate (chocolate-covered cherries now...), hints of spearmint, warm salted pretzel, sea salt, wet beach stones, light gauze, stained wood, fresh paper, warm machine oil, infused by a drift of gentle peat smoke. the palate is briskly sweet with chocolate-covered cherries, salted pretzels, and some charred wood and a wisp of wood smoke on the finish. water opens up quite a bit of milk chocolate on the nose, cocoa powder even, some grapes, maybe some raspberries, warm plastic and fresh paper (fax machine...?), hints of sweet malty vanilla on the tail. the gentle peat smoke is still there, but perhaps even a touch more gentle now. the palate now presents with that cocoa powder, some mint, a handful of fresh raspberries, with just enough smoke on the finish. summary: cocoa powder, berries, mint and salted pretzels with hints of warm office machine... takes water nicely. [tasted blind for the 2011 Awards]
