Tasting Notes
Ho-cheng YaoGolden yellow color, tropical fruit, yeasty, rich fruit. light peat, light pepper, Medium body, fruity, malty sweet, quite weak, finish short, some roast grain, a little bit disappointing as lack of power.
Rich Howardthe initial hit on the nose is a strong wash of salty sea air, sweet malt, dry wheat fields and oatmeal, infused with just a hint of smoke. all of this followed immediately by much deeper notes of damp earth, wet stones, hints of wet grass even. the the floral and fruit notes begin to drift through: vanilla bean, orange creme, ripe red apple, with distinct hints of jasmine tea, and finished off with some warm shortbread and a hint of molasses. the palate is warming and quite sweet: the cask has added quite some vanilla, and that orange creme is here as well. then some jasmine tea, grassy and herbal notes, with a generous dash of sweetened oatmeal and powdered sugar on the finish. a drop of water accents the sea air and jasmine green tea on the nose, now with a light infusion of Seville oranges. the palate follows suit, even a tad sweeter now, and the bitter edge of the herbal notes has been diminished, but overall it's too tame now. summary: more interesting on the nose than the palate, but still a quality aged dram... do not add water.
