Nose: Clean, fresh, floral then deepening honey, toasted marshmallows and tropical fruit. It does get smokey but it's more retronasally than in the pre-taste nose. Still the faint tar and ash does build over time.
Palate; tropical fruit and a hint of smoke and sterile bandages.
Finish: burnt toffee and peat then ashes.
Comment: Classy and subtle across all the bits that make Bowmore, Bowmore. This is very reminiscent of great older Bowmores from the mid 1990's and thank god the dollop of first fill oloroso has been toned down if not entirely dispensed with. This reeks of sherry oak from refill american oak and all the better for it. |
